FROM  STRANDHILL TO WICKLOW

Picture
On the 27th of March 2009  Dorothy received a call from a couple in Strandhill. They had noticed a black labrador type dog wandering outside the National School in Strandhill. Both Dorothy and Annie went to see the dog and with the help of Annie's veterinary background they discovered a scar between her shoulders which suggested to Annie that the dog had its micro-chip removed. Automatically they had suggested that this dog was stolen.
Whilst discussing with a local Veterinary Surgeon, he confirmed that the micro-chip had been removed in a "butcher like fashion", and with that a picture and description was published on the ISPCA website in the lost and found section. The following day we received a phone call from a family in Bray County Wicklow who claimed to be the owners of the dog. They told us that their black labradoodle which was neutered went missing from their home in October 2008 along with another brown labradoodle.
Annie and Dorothy organised to meet up with the family at the Couple's house in Strandhill, who had originally found the dog, along with a member of Sligo Gardai who had been dealing with this case and others. It was clear from looking at the family connect with the dog that these were the genuine owners. This they had proved with paper work of evidence. It was a very emotional experience for all involved.
Annie had said "it is such a thrill to reunite an animal with its owner and that is what your job is about. Annie has remained in contact with Sligo Gardai with regard to the huge issue of stolen pedigree dogs in the North-West.
