WELCOME
Hello and welcome to SLIGO ANIMAL RESCUE. Sligo Animal Rescue is a non profit making organisation which is run solely on a voluntary basis and was only officially formed in May 2009. It is an amalgamation of a number of individual volunteers who have worked separately over the last number of years and have all the same interests in providing a good reliable rescue service for CountySligo. This site will help you to find out more about us as a group, the work we do and have done over the past 15 months, now. It will keep you updated on all rescues we carry out and the result of each one. You are able to view the animals which are up for adoption and those that need fostering.
All animals that are taken in and rescued by Sligo Animal Rescue are giving the best possible chance. In order for us to continue this line of work we need your help. As we are solely a voluntary organisation, as yet we do not receive any funding. However we continue in our endeavours to attend to every call we receive. This in turn incurs allot of expense including very expensive veterinary costs.
We are not judge or jury in any welfare situations, but are aim is to provide valid advice to the public on addressing any welfare issues that may be brought to our attention. Our hope in doing this is to prevent the inclusion of bodies such as the ISPCA as we realise a high percentage of cases may just need a little redirection in the welfare issues that they may have. We hope to become the friendly face of animal welfare in CountySligo and provide a service in all aspects of animal care including wildlife and sea life where possible. We have connections in both these areas for example THE IRISH SEAL SANCTUARY who we have contacted and offered our assistance in the case of the seal population and any issues that may arise. We also, to date have completed a vast number of rescue calls particularly dealing with injured swans. A Wildlife group has been seriously lacking in CountySligo all be it for a few volunteers scattered in different parts of the county.
We hope to filter our telephone number to local and countyGarda Stations as this appears to be a common place for people to contact looking for help. As we can appreciate the work load of the Gardai may not allow them to deal with these calls, we hope our help will provide assistance for the Gardai also.
We have a good relationship with number of veterinary practices in CountySligo and hope we can build on these for the future.
As you will see from our rescue profile, we have successfully helped alot of animals in the recent past and in order to continue this we need support of the public in building up funds.
